Volume 1 of "County Folklore" (1895) talks about Black Annis in the section on Leicestershire and Rutland folklore, and it quotes the "Leicester Chronicle" of 1842 which mentions this connection. In her encyclopedia, Briggs also mentions the Leicester Chronicle article.
