Narcissi is the name given to any flower in the daffodil family, although in the UK we tend to call the small flowers narcissi and the larger ones daffodils.
The name comes from the Greek legend Narcissus, a word which means 'numbness' referring to the narcotic properties of the plant, the bulb contains a toxic substance.
Narcissus in the Greek legend fell in love with his own reflection in a stream. He stayed there transfixed so the Gods turned him into a flower so that he could stay there forever.
They are good flowers for Geminis who like the cheerfulness of the yellow colour and Pisces who appreciate the delicate scent of the white narcissi.
In Victorian flower language daffodils signified regard and chivalry, whilst narcissi meant self esteem, female ambition or vanity.
The daffodil is the March birth flower and the meaning it holds is friendship and domestic happiness.

Place the daffodil flower on the altar during love spells, or carry for the same purpose. Placed in the bedroom the fresh flowers increase fertility. If a daffodil is plucked and worn next to the heart, good luck shall come your way.
If the very first daffodil you lay your eyes upon in the spring or summer hangs its head towards you, this is said to be an omen of bad luck for the remainder of the year. This herbal superstition is centuries old.
To dream about seeing or picking daffodils is said to symbolize happiness and adoration. In the country of Wales it is believed that daffodils appearing in dreams signify fresh hopes for the future.
And of course the fae love daffodils too!
