Dried orange slices...

One of the fruits and scents we associate with the festive season is orange.

Magical properties of orange:

Gender: Masculine
Planet: Sun
Element: Fire
Powers: love, divination, luck, money

Here are some instructions on how to dry orange slices to make decorations:

Slice your oranges into 1cm slices (approx.).

If you have a rack put them on that, as they tend to stick to baking trays, place in an oven (120F/250C).  Leave them in the oven for 2-3 hours but keep an eye on them and turn them over two or three times.  Then leave them to cool.

You can hang them individually on ribbons to decorate your Yule tree, string them as a garland interspersed with cranberries, add them to a wreath or a candle centre piece, hang them on string with cinnamon sticks, bay leaves or star anise or add them to a bowl with pine cones, cinnamon sticks and star anise for pot pourri.

I also like to dry the peel I take from clementines, lay the strips of peel on a baking tray and 'cook' on a low heat (instructions as above for the slices), but keep checking on them so that they don't burn.  When they are completely dry you can use them ground in magic powders or incense blends.
