Super Moons by Thia

Super Moons by Thia

The last three moons of 2016 are all Super Moons.

Since the moon does not orbit the Earth in a perfect circle, there are times when it is closer to the Earth (called a perigee) and times when it is farther away (called an apogee). When the moon is closest to the Earth it can appear 14% larger and 30% brighter than when it is farthest away. That is why it is called a Super Moon. Due to the influence of the moon on the tides and other Earthly concerns, all the aspects of the full moon are multiplied when we have a Super Full Moon.

Well, this year we have one in October, November and December! Woohoo!
